Petteri Laukkanen to start as the Head of Technical Department on 1 August 2020
Tanssin talo has recruited a new Head of Technical Department, increasing the number of full-time employees to six. Petteri Laukkanen (Bachelor of Arts, Live Performance Technology) has been chosen to create and lead the technical team.
Laukkanen starts as the Head of Technical Department in August 2020. Since 2013, Laukkanen has worked as the Deputy Head of Stage at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet. In addition to numerous dance and performing arts productions throughout his career, Laukkanen has also worked on renewal projects related to performance techniques. Laukkanen has also worked as an entrepreneur in the field of performing arts, music and media technology.
“I was impressed by Petteri's enthusiasm and eagerness to use his previous experience and his understanding gained through studies in the creation of a new organisation. He is a strategically clear thinker with vast experience in managerial duties in one of our country's most significant arts institutions. Petteri has achieved significant results in implementing technical development projects, technical-productional thinking and welcoming performances. This experience will greatly benefit him in his new role at Tanssin talo," says Matti Numminen, Director of Dance House Helsinki.
Before opening in 2022, the tasks of the Head of Technical Department will include planning the technical use of performance facilities and ensuring their technical usability. Laukkanen will also be in charge of recruiting the technical staff, planning the technical operating models and defining the technical services of the premises. When the actual operations are launched, the Head of Technical Department will develop them and the resources of Tanssin talo by ensuring that the technical solutions correspond with the needs of the users and customers of the premises. The Head of Technical Department is part of Dance House Helsinki's Management Team together with the Director, the Head of Programme Development and the Head of Marketing and Communications.
Due to his previous experience in dance productions, Laukkanen is familiar with the technical and artistic side of dance performances. “My strengths lie in the ability to understand performing arts and the technology supporting it as a whole, and my aspiration for strategic objectives of an arts organization, while avoiding partial optimization" Laukkanen explains.
Alongside his work, Laukkanen has studied in the Arts Management Masters programme of the Sibelius Academy at the University of Arts Helsinki, and he is currently finishing his Master's thesis.
