Silentopia
– When the birds fell silent
Silentopia is an interdisciplinary event straddling arts and sciences. It offers a compassionate space within which to examine feelings aroused both by the ecocrisis and our complicity in it.
Dance theatre Sivuun Ensemble invites the audience to Erkko Hall where a ritualistic performance transports us towards transformation. Choreographer Ninni Perko’s furious, delicate and sacred initiation rite visualises new worlds and possibilities by building bridges towards a brighter future.
The whole working group - musicians, dancers, sound designer and scientists - all participate in the performance which takes place in a chapel of nature. The Earth’s supreme communal residents, ants, provide an alternative perspective.
Silentopia premiered on April 14, 2022 at Espoo City Theatre as part of the April Jazz festival. It received rave reviews in all of the major Finnish newspapers and was loved by its audience.

Note: To ensure good visibility to everyone, The Erkko Hall auditorium is steep. Please note that there is no lift to the upper section. Only the first row seats are fully accessible.
